The city of Lund

Lund is one of Scandinavia’s oldest towns. Its university is ranked among the leading universities in the world.

Lund was founded in 990 AC by the Danish king Sweyn Forkbeard, probably as a relocation of the Iron age settlement of Uppåkra. Written sources indicate that the village known today as Uppåkra then was called Lund. Today, Lund is Sweden’s 12th biggest municipality with about 119 000 inhabitants, 19,5 per cent of which were born abroad.
